LINDSAY Hoyle has thrown his weight behind local farmers by launching a campaign to promote the quality and safety of British farm produce.
The Chorley MP has asked the Government to support farming with exhibitions at major agricultural events such as the Royal Lancashire Show.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Hoyle asked the Ministry for Agriculture Fisheries and Food to back the idea.
He said: "It is about time we demonstrated our faith in British farming by setting up exhibitions and promotions to emphasise the high standards and quality of our farm produce.
"The farming industry has suffered a terrible setback since the BSE crisis and the public's faith in British produce must be restored in order to kick start the industry again.
"I firmly believe that farmers in Chorley should be given a helping hand by the Government - travelling and sponsored events could help to restore public confidence.
"I am hopeful ministers will take my comments on board and I am keen to see that the beef ban is lifted as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Mr Hoyle has asked for British beef to be served to all visiting European ministers to show support for farmers.
He said: "My message to our European partners is simple: let them eat beef. It is high time action was taken to confront other governments who are insisting the beef ban stays in place. Let them test it out for themselves."
