Winsford United 1 Chorley 0 A MISERABLE week for Chorley ended with a single goal defeat at Winsford meaning the Magpies last three games have failed to yield a single goal.

The midweek trip to Altrincham in the League Cup semi final first leg ended with a 2-0 defeat for Chorley leaving them with everything to do in the second leg at Victory Park.

Saturday's visit to Winsford saw the depleted Magpies confronted with a quite dreadful pitch which almost inevitably produced an equally dreadful game. In three previous clashes between the two sides this season, Winsford had failed to find the net. It was also the Magpies first defeat at Winsford since the Cheshire side's promotion to the Premier Division in 1992. None of those games can have been as bad as this.

Chorley failed to muster a single goal effort in the entire 90 minutes and Winsford were not much better. The first half produced only two incidents of note with Marsh making a sprawling save from Aspinall's 20 yarder and grabbing Peel's header after the striker's first shot had crashed back off the bar.

The second half was probably even more dire until with just over 10 minutes remaining, Shaughnessy grabbed the only goal with a fierce angled drive.

This Saturday, Chorley play their final away game when they make a quick return to Altrincham. Next Tuesday relegation-threatened Radcliffe Borough come to Victory Park.
