SIR I refer to the Editor's note to the letter from P Bretherton (BEN, March 26).
I fought in the Burma campaign during the last war, a campaign in which thousands of British servicemen (white) also lost their lives.
Can the Editor please inform me whose 'castles' they were defending?
G Goodram
Elm Grove, Horwich
Editor's note: I believe the original author who referred to the phrase 'An Englishman's castle', did so in a metaphorical sense, to illustrate the sacrifices all British and Allied troops made to protect their homelands.
