PARENTS of children at a Horwich primary school have been surfing the Internet with abandon . . . purely for educational reasons.

A group of dedicated parents whose children attend St Mary's CE School have completed a 10-week family literacy course.

They have been learning how to support and develop children's literacy skills and have produced their own booklets.

The last session focused on the use of IT in the classroom - and the volunteers were soon surfing the Internet.

It is now hoped the helpers will use the skills they have acquired in recent weeks and pass them on to children in Reception and Year One classes.
