SIR: I reply to the letter (BEN, March 21) about the "lollipop" lady who was made to retire at 70 by the Council and the fact that the same rules should apply to everyone.
Fair's fair. I would personally think the councillors would go on for ever, so long as fools like us keep putting expenses in their pockets. People over 70, drawing £17,500 pa, are not going to give it up of their own accord. The retirement age should be 65 to make room for younger men and more jobs. Besides, it's time for a change. A lot of the councillors have been in the Town Hall so long they think they own it and the people around it.
