THE children from Blackrod schools have waited long enough for a pelican crossing at an accident blackspot on Manchester Road.
In 1996, after an eight-year-old boy was injured at the blackspot, a 300-signature petition was collected along with letters from the head teachers of the three Blackrod primary schools.
Campaign organiser Wendy Brown said a promise was made that something would be done in Bolton Council's next financial year. Nothing happened.
Then this Easter a 15-year-old boy was injured at the same blackspot and more letters have been written.
This time Bolton Council leader Bob Howarth has promised action will be taken.
He says he is sorry nothing had been done sooner. That's a fair and honest comment.
But if that pelican crossing is not in place in the very near future, the children, their parents and the BEN will demand to know the reason why.
