HOLIDAYMAKERS are being warned to look out for bogus taxi drivers who are operating illegal airport services from Chorley.
Licensing chiefs in the borough have asked passengers to double check before making a journey following an increase in rogue cabbies. All vehicles licensed by the council display a local authority plate on the rear bumper and drivers wear a specially issued badge. But, according to town hall bosses, some firms appear to be running cheaper services by ignoring licensing requirements.
Councillor Mary Wilson, chair of the licensing sub-committee, said: "With the increase in travellers needing transportation there is a similar increase in the number of rogue taxi drivers. They run a cheaper service by ignoring licensing requirements and are operating illegally.
"Before you book a cab, make sure it is licensed with the local authority either as a hackney carriage or private hire, which will ensure the individual is deemed trustworthy, the vehicle is roadworthy and there is adequate insurance in force."
