A GIANT banner hanging on the side of Bury Town Hall sums up the town's pride for its never-say-die football team.
The banner, which declares "Well Done The Shakers", congratulates the Gigg Lane side who have retained their First Division slot against all odds.
Bury council leader Cllr Derek Boden said: "When Bury FC were promoted last year we declared that we had a First Division side for a First Division town, those words have even more meaning in 1998.
"The exploits of the club this year must rank alongside some of the proudest moments that have been experienced.
There have been times when less motivated sides might have given up, but Stan Ternent and his players were always going to give it 110 pc to stay in Division One.
"Congratulations to the Shakers and without a doubt a giant well done."
