PLUCKY former heart-transplant patients will be among the 150 walkers expected in the tenth annual Rivington Pike walk on Sunday. The seven former patients have all recovered after heart or heart and lung transplants at Wythenshawe Hospital. The event, organised by Horwich New Heart Club, is expected to raise up to £4,000 for the North-west New Heart, New Start appeal.

The fun walk will also include a traditional performance at the half-way mark from the doctors and nurses from Wythenshawe Hospital in their folk group Flotsam.

The walk begins between 1pm and 2pm from Higher Rivington Barn.

The Horwich New Heart Club will also have tombola and bric-a-brac stalls.

The club has launched a new fund-raising venture which encourages people to climb mountain and moorland summits.

Certificates will be given to participants and a medal to those who climb 10 or more summits, with prizes also available.

Rivington Pike will be counted as a summit.
