RIVINGTON failed in their bid to land a Lancashire Amateur League championship and cup double.
After securing the Division One trophy, Rivs went down 2-0 to Premier Division champions Leigh Athletic in the final of the LAL Open Cup.
Leigh took the lead with a seventh minute header and although Craig Hindley's 30-yard drive almost brought an equaliser, Rivs were still 1-0 down at the break.
Rivs went close to levelling things soon after half time when Paul Dove beat his marker, let rip with powerful drive from a tight angle, and saw his goalbound shot cleared off the line.
Leigh effectively settled the match in the 78th minute when Alan Fairbrother tipped over for a corner, only for Atheltic to score from the flag kick.
