A BUS driver needed hospital treatment after being sprayed with CS gas during an attempted robbery.
The driver, who has not been named, was sprayed in the face by a man who got on the bus in Manchester Road, Little Hulton, and demanded cash.
The attacker tried to snatch some of the driver's takings but he failed and fled empty handed as the gas fumes engulfed the bus.
The driver and one passenger needed hospital treatment, but both were allowed home later.
The incident happened shortly before midnight on Friday on the late night No 36 bus. The driver used his radio to raise the alarm. Police arrived within minutes but the attacker had already escaped.
The incident was one of two similar attacks on Friday night in the Little Hulton area.
A man was later arrested by police probing the earlier incident. He was interviewed before being released on police bail.
Police used CS gas to overpower a man who attacked them outside the Moses Gate pub in Bolton Road, Farnworth, last night. A man was arrested and detained overnight.
