SIR: In answer to letters in the Evening News May 7, may I say that Nat Lofthouse being a down to earth, Bolton lad, will admit to not being as good as players mentioned.

We are not talking about his ability. It's about his dedication to the Wanderers. He did get paid for what he did as you say. But look at the sportsmen of today and the large amounts of money they get. They get in the Honours List.

A man who works all his life couldn't get that sort of money, they get in such a short time.

They have killed sport, as we know it. It's all 'greed' now.

The smaller clubs will go against the wall. That is the intelligence they have.

Soccer was my game years ago, but now I wouldn't watch them if they played on the rug. They are over-paid and over-rated.
