HOPES of a record Super League crowd for Friday's top-of-the-table clash between Leeds and Wigan have been dashed by safety officers.

The capacity at Headingley was today cut from 27,500 to just 18,000. With both teams boasting 100 per cent records, there were signs that Friday's game could have topped the current Super League record crowd of 20,429 for Wigan's home match against St Helens two years ago. A spokesman for Leeds said the capacity was reduced due for safety issues.

Wigan skipper Andy Farrell will be available for the showdown after the RL ruled he had no case to answer after being put on report in the Sheffield game last Saturday.
