CONSERVATIVES are in absolute control of the new Bolton Metropolitan District Council. After a cliffhanger vote-counting session they finished up with an overall majority of one. When the new District Council meets for the first time next Wednesday, it will comprise of 35 Conservatives, 31 Labour members, two Liberals and one Independent.

STAMP collectors made a rush for the royal silver wedding issue, and yesterday's issues of the 2d and 1d. stamps in commemoration of the liberation of the Channel Islands in May, 1945. At lunch-time yesterday the counter at the PO, Manchester, says a correspondent, resembled the entrance to Wembley Stadium on Cup Final Day, and the counter clerks said that it had been the same all morning. Our correspondent has been surprised that the stamps were not for sale at the head post offices in other large towns such as Bolton.

Newport-street and Great Moor-street

The above Inn will be CLOSED for business during the whole of the Ceremony of the day. There are eleven windows to be let, the most prominent in the borough for witnessing the procession. The Inn being closed, every comfort will be provided and attention paid to persons engaging windows. Parties desirous of engaging same are requested to apply by letter or personally to the Proprietor.

PERSONS desirous of tendering for the erection of barricading (about six miles in length) along route of Procession may obtain all particulars from Mr J. Proctor, Borough Surveyor, Corporation Offices, on Tuesday next, the 13th inst. Tenders to be sent before Thursday next, the 15th inst.
