FAMOUS names will line up at a benefit concert in aid of a popular Chorley musician who died suddenly in March.

Money raised from the event will go to the family of the late Ian Grime, aged 60, of Southport Road, Chorley.

A former solicitor, Ian played with the Manchester-based Irish band Whiskey in the Jar and was a founder member of Chorley's Blue Water Folk, with whom he played for 27 years.

Both bands will perform at the concert at Chorley Little Theatre on Sunday, June 14.

Others lining up are The Houghton Weavers, The Eugenes, The Southbank Grunters and Bernard Wrigley.

A friend of Ian's, Joe Singleton, of Chorley, said: "He was a well known chap. He did a lot for his church and used to read at St Mary's. He was a very nice, straight, likeable chap."

Joe said Ian sang and played the whistle and accordion.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8, available from either Joe on 01257 233128; Eddie 01772 435668; Roger 01257 272233; Phil 01942 609792 or the County Information Centre, Union Street, Chorley.

For those who wish to donate to the evening but cannot attend, certificates at £2 each are available as a 'thank you' for your support.
