CLAIMS by Leigh Green Party that a Centre Parcs holiday centre could be coming to Pennington Flash Country park have been rejected by Wigan Council.
And the claim has infuriated the Centre Parcs company.
Earlier this week the Green Party distributed leaflets in Leigh, claiming the holiday firm will be setting up in the area. They called on Wigan Council to "come clean" about the scheme.
Their spokesman, Chris Maile, said: "It seems that whenever a straight question is asked of Labour councillors they either evade the question or give a misleading or inaccurate answer."
But Wigan Council leader Peter Smith said: "No developer whatever is coming to Pennington Flash.
"The Flash is a highly valued local amenity, lovingly developed by the council which brings thousands of visitors to the borough from far and wide.
"The idea that the council would do anything to alter this is nothing short of ludicrous."
The idea has also been ridiculed by Centre Parcs who are writing to the Green Party about their leaflets.
"We will be advising them that we have no plans for any development at Pennington Flash and they should refrain from using Centre Parcs' name," said a spokeswoman.
