ANDY Salmon has resigned as PGA North Region secretary, little more than a year after moving to their Bolton headquarters following a period in Scotland as tournament director.

He has been appointed golf operations manager at Marriott Manchester Hotel and Country Club, whose course at Worsley will open next April.

In his short time at the helm, Salmon had increased the region's events to their highest level for five years.

He said: "I've had a thoroughly enjoyable five years with the PGA, and in particular over the last 12 months as North Region secretary, however this is a unique opportunity for me to be involved with a top class facility from the outset."

"I would like to think that the region is back on the ascendancy, and I am sure my successor will continue to develop it to the benefit of all the members."

Among the many new events Salmon has negotiated, is the Mercedes Classic at Catterick on May 26-28.?
