SIR: I was staggered to learn that the annual budget of Ofsted, the inspectorate for schools, is £120m per year. That amount represents almost £1m for every Education Authority in England and Wales.
Wouldn't our children be better served if that money were spent on renewing decrepit schools, employing teachers, and buying books and much needed computer equipment? Perhaps then there would be a fewer schools to "name and shame".
