ENVIRONMENTAL expert Scott Felton is embarking on a one-man crusade to make Bolton greener by offering dozens of free trees to schools and community groups.
Scott moved to Bolton a year ago from North Wales where he operated a game, conservation and fishery enterprise and produced thousands of native tree species for new woodland and hedgerows as a sideline.
He wound up his business and now lives in Blackburn Road, Dunscar.
But he still has hundreds of trees left on land in North Wales and is offering 160 ash and beech trees to any Bolton school, community group or club with room to plant them.
The trees will be supplied in units of 20 on a first come first served basis. They stand between two and four feet high and anyone wanting to take advantage of the offer needs to contact Scott on 01204 597740 this week to ensure the trees remain healthy after being planted.
The rest of the trees will be sold at a nominal price to any interested person or business and the proceeds will be donated to a local good cause.
Scott currently works as a caretaker at the Market Place but is considering re-starting his hobby and produce up to 3,000 trees a year for distribution and planting in the town starting this winter in bid to make Bolton greener.
A keen environmentalist, Scott trained as a gamekeeper in Knowsley Park, Liverpool, and is now a member of Bolton Environment Forum.
He said: "People who want to take up this offer should get the trees quick before they start to take leaf.
"I can see a lot of potential in Bolton but the town is short of trees and it is something the Forum is trying to redress.
"I am just doing my bit to make the area greener and planting trees is the easiest way to improve the environment."
