A BOLTON car wash was left in a lather when a woman's lone protest threatened to hit a whole day's trade. Elaine Massey, 37, was so dissatisfied with a "Full Works" clean at IMO car wash on Manchester Road that she returned to demand an action replay - and refused to budge until her car was cleaned again. A queue of drivers built up behind the mum of two as she argued her case with attendants at the car wash entrance.

Three drivers turned away as she told a supervisor: "I'm not budging all day unless you do a proper job."

Staff at the mechanical wash near Burnden Park at first refused to give in to Mrs Massey's request.

Waiting cars then reversed to allow Mrs Massey to move from the entrance and discuss her claim that the first £3.40 wash had not left her car gleaming clean.

Attendants were still adamant that Mrs Massey could not go through for free.

But they changed their mind when Mrs Massey warned: "I'll just get back in the queue and do it all again if you don't give in."

Mrs Massey, of High Stile Street, Kearsley, who claimed her C-Reg BMW was still dirty after the first clean, was allowed a free basic wash.

But today she accused a young IMO supervisor, who took her car registration and threatened to "report" her for the protest, of being rude and unprofessional.

She said: "Normally I go to the IMO in Farnworth and it's great, but the one in Bolton was a nightmare. I don't know who he thought he could report me to. I was just standing up for my rights."

London-based Anduff Car Wash Ltd, which is responsible for IMO outlets nationwide, failed to return the BEN's calls when we contacted bosses for comment.
