SIR: It is my duty to respond to Mr B Derbyshire (Points of view, May 14). His god sounds like a polite, inoffensive, eager-to-please, anxious to be popular; man-fearing, god. Yet! he never names him?

The Jewish and Christian God has a name - the God, who appeared to Isaiah was the "One true God" and yet, John tells us that "He was Christ" Is: 6:1-9) (John 12:41).

The one who Isaiah says, that He was to be a "stumbling stone" (to the Jews) was the "One true God" and yet Paul tells us that, "He was Christ" (Is: 8:14) (Rom: 9.33).

He who Isaiah proclaims "Unto me every knee shall bow" is the "One true God", yet again, Paul tells us that "He is Christ" (Is. 45:23) (Rom 14:11).

Again,"I am the First and the Last, Besides Me there is no God" (IS: 44:6).

We will do well, if we "tremble" at the words of Jeremiah, "the gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they (other gods) shall "perish" (Jer: 10:11)

Other gods Mr Derbyshire? ..... there are none!

We "bigots" (your word), are happy to name the name of Christ!
