SHOWCASE Israel - to be held in Bury next month - is to be opened by Ambassador Dror Zeigerman.

He will be one of a number of dignitaries at the major business-to-business event aimed at companies wishing to explore trading opportunities in Israel.

Mr Zeigerman will attend the gala dinner on Tuesday, June 16, and perform the opening ceremony the following day at Bury Town Hall.

Dror means freedom in Hebrew.

He was elected to the Knesset (Israel's Parliament) as a member of the Likud Party.

The following year he highlighted the plight of the threatened Jewish community in Ethiopia.

He sat as a member of several influential Knesset committees, including the powerful Foreign Affairs and Security Committee and the Immigration and Absorption Committee.

After serving as Consul General to Toronto he took up his appointment in the UK in January.
