THE magic of television transformed a Bolton schoolgirl's modern bedroom to old-fashioned opulence - in just a day!

For top interior design experts were hired by the BBC to help slap on the paint and give Lauren Crossley's favourite room a face-lift.

The room's revamp will be featured on May 31 on BBC 2 during the screening of the popular children's programme, Fully Booked.

Now Lauren, aged 13, of Farnworth, has been left with classy sleeping quarters, which boast a mock four poster bed and mirrors, rugs and curtains all carefully colour co-ordinated.

The end result is a bold contrast to what were once magenta walls - they're now bedecked in bright green paint!

Lauren, a pupil at Harper Green Secondary School, put forward her room for the TV make-over after BBC bosses contacted her school to give children the chance to change something.

And the cameras caught the stunned expression of Lauren's mum, Joanne Watson, who was led blindfold into the newly decorated room for the official unveiling ceremony.

Mrs Watson said: "The overall effect is great and I think they were pleased with my initial reaction because I was so shocked. It had gone from magenta to green in only a few hours.

"While one man was doing all the work in the room a girl was working downstairs making cushions and curtains. It was very fast-paced but they did remarkably well."

But Mrs Watson admits the decorating stretched on for longer than was planned.

She joked: "They were due to finish at 5.30pm but only packed up at 9.30pm. Even then the paint in places was runny because they'd had to rush, but at least they gave us some so we could patch it up as necessary."
