BOLTON School student Richard Paget has won a place in the national final of the 1998 Young Electronic Designer Awards.
Richard, aged 18, has designed a flight data recorder for a radio-controlled aircraft.
It impressed the judges at the Young Electronic Designer Awards regional competition at Manchester University.
He now goes on to the finals which finish with a special presentation dinner at Granada Studios in Manchester on June 29.
Richard will be invited to spend three days in Manchester for the finals as a guest of the organisers.
During this time his project will be on public display in the Museum of Science & Industry.
The awards are organised by The YEDA Trust and supported by Cable & Wireless Communications and the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
Students are encouraged to design and produce electronic devices or systems which have a useful practical application in everyday life.
The senior age group winner (18 to 25) will receive a cheque for £1,000.
