A TEENAGER who suffered severe head injuries in a road accident as rushed to catch his school bus, has lost his fight for life.

Ashley Stanley, aged 14, died in the intensive care unit at Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital yesterday. He had been on a ventilator in the hospital for the last two days.

Ashley of Alexandra Road, Prestolee, was involved in an accident with a car in Market Street, Stoneclough, on Monday as he dashed into the road to catch his school bus.

The teenager spotted the bus as he was telephoning his family from a nearby phone kiosk informing them he had missed his usual bus and was going to be late for school.

Ashley suffered serious head injuries in the accident with a Ford Granada car. He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital before being transferred to Alder Hey.

The teenager's family were at his bedside yesterday when the ventilator keeping him alive was switched off.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened at 8.40am on Monday near the Market Street junction with Sulby Street.
