AN investigation is still under way at a Radcliffe mill following the death of a factory foreman who was crushed by a bale of paper. John Ince, 62, had worked at the East Lancashire Paper Mill on Church Street East for 30 years. The tragedy happened on Friday when Mr Ince was pinned against a wall by a bale of paper which had rolled off a fork lift truck in the stock preparation area.
Colleagues helped pull the bale away and Mr Ince was taken to Bury General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
An investigation is being carried by the Health and Safety Executive.
Mr Ince, of Redvales Road, Bury, lived with his wife, Patricia, and had one son and a stepson.
His son Andrew, 29, of Bury Road, Radcliffe, said: "My dad had worked at the mill for 30 years. Five years ago, the company gave him a long service award. He'd been foreman for the past 10 years."
He added: "We are all very distressed by what has happened.
"It's more of a shock and loss because he hadn't been ill or anything. It was just so sudden. But the family will get through it."
Mr Ince was a keen crown green bowler, attached to the Stanley Conservative Club in Bury. He also enjoyed golf.
