THIRTY jobs are to be lost at British Aerospace's Lostock plant.

Managers announced the job losses after a 12-month review of the company.

Bosses found the company's workforce in the three plants throughout the UK needed restructuring.

A spokesman for the company said: "We had a consultation with a number of managers yesterday.

"They were already aware the review has been going on for the last year.

"We have been looking at the skills match.

"What we have found is that we have too many skills in certain area and not enough in others."

He said there would be a net loss throughout the country of 150 jobs in the 2,800 strong work force.

The company employs around 450 people at the Lostock plant which makes guided missiles.

The spokesman added the firm was hopeful the job losses could be made through voluntary redundancies. The unions have been kept informed.

The spokesman added: "We're not making enough money to develop the business as we want to.

"We have got a very strong order book but we need to be more profitable."
