AUSTRALIAN Test winger Wendell Sailor has turned his back on Wigan and decided to stay with the Brisbane Broncos until the end of 2000.

Sailor said he would drop planned legal action against the champion Brisbane club and accept a two-year option on his contract.

By staying in Australia 23-year-old Sailor will reject a two-year deal worth around £650,000 with the Warriors.

Sailor said he had allowed financial considerations to cloud his judgment and now realised he wanted to stay with the Broncos.

"I allowed myself to be convinced that money was the benchmark of success," he said. "On reflection I now understand success is personal and self-justification and integrity are far more important.

"I accept responsibility for my actions and apologise to those who may have inadvertently suffered because of them.

"I want to be a Bronco. They gave me the opportunity to be who I am and I think I forgot that.

"I led with my head and not my heart. I wanted to be the highest paid player in the game but that isn't everything."

Broncos chief executive Shane Edwards said the club was disappointed with the approach from Wigan and the involvement of a management group in supporting Sailor's bid to join the English giants.
