SIR: I thank you for publishing my letter the other week regarding "Blackrod's disgusting roads". I do believe some good came of it for one exciting day.

Firstly I had a councillor knocking on my door to ask if I could count on his Labour vote. The first time I have met him in the last 15 years. I thought it was a joke. I am ashamed to say I voted Labour at the General Election. They are hitting us, the workers, with everything they can!

Secondly, Station Road was tarmacadamed recently. Another councillor who does try to get things done has been trying for 30 odd years without success.

Why should we have to pay for a council which if it has no authority, is a waste of ratepayers' money? Why are our powerless councillors so keen to remain in office year after year? There must be something to their advantage. It is certainly no advantage to us. What have they achieved? Tell the public, and what about the Equestrian Centre? What is it really? I suggest all our councillors resign now. Mr R Welburn-Sutton
