TIM Street today publically declared his support for Leigh Centurions coach Keith Latham in response to terrace criticism.

Some saw the fiery Street's dismissal against Keighley as inevitable after previously being warned twice for foul play.

"I know that many of the fans were calling for Keith to substitute me before I got involved in the sending off incident," Street admitted.

"But I felt my place was out on the field, trying to get us back into the match.

"Everybody knows my style and that I sail close to the wind at times. But I'm 29 now and I don't think I'm going to change that style at this stage of my career. If you take that aggression away, I'm not the same player.

"Keith knows that and I defend his decision to keep me on the field. It was my fault I got sent off, not Keith's."

Street is likely to make a personal appearance in front of the RL Disciplinary Panel in Leeds later this week and, given his poor disciplinary record, faces a hefty ban for his part in Sunday's 61st minute brawl.

Despite Leigh being rooted in the bottom two of the Division One table, Street is convinced that the Centurions will eventually come good.

"Our injury list this season has been crippling. If we'd been able to turn our strongest side out week in and week out, you'd have seen a big difference," Street believes.

"But we've got such a young squad and some of the teenagers have found it difficult to raise their game week after week.

"Ideally the squad needs strengthening and it would be great if the board could find some money for Keith to spend on players."
