CLASSIC car enthusiasts are revving up support for a massive rally in aid of charity. Final preparations are in place for Bolton's third annual classic car rally, with all proceeds going to the Bolton Hospice. And now former Bolton MP Peter Thurnham has put out a plea for as many people as possible to take part in the motoring extravaganza on Sunday, June 7.

He said: "We believe there are a thousand old cars in the Bolton area which would count as classic cars.

"But a lot of these hardly ever take to the road and many of the others are just not entered into rallies. These are the people we need to help us."

Any car which is registered before June 1, 1978, can take part in the rally which will head off from Le Mans Crescent just after 10am.

An impressive list of entrants include Mr Thurnham's 1904 Wolseley, a 1924 Bentley and even a 1973 MGB Roadster.

It costs £20 to enter each classic car and people driving modern vehicles can also follow on behind the parade for a charge of £10.

Spectators will be able to watch the procession of vehicles at vantage points along the route including Wards Reservoir in Belmont and the car parks above Anglezarke Reservoir.

At the end of the rally a lunch will be served at the Canon Slade school.

And one worthy Bolton resident will get the chance to ride in one of the classic motors during the 50-mile circuit.

Organisers want people to contact the Bolton Hospice's campaign office with nominees who could win the chance to enjoy a trip out as a passenger in one of the vintage cars.

Anyone with a nominee should contact Bolton Hospice's campaign office on 01204 520040.
