JUNE Davies from Glossop "adopted" Bolton to enter the local heat of the National Senior Citizens Talent Contest - and won.

At the Albert Halls yesterday, June, a 61-year-old former legal secretary, performed her "one woman show" of humorous chat and a comic monologue and was judged the best of 18 competitors.

Because there was no heat in her home town of Glossop, June received permission from Whitbread, sponsors of the competition nationally, to enter elsewhere. She chose Bolton and said she had been delighted by the friendly reception from the town.

June received a crystal decanter and glasses, given by the local sponsors Crompton Place, from the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Peter Finch. She will compete in the regional final of the contest next Wednesday.

The runners-up, who took joint second place, were James Oakes from Bromley Cross, Billy Barnes from Worsley and James Handley from Bolton.
