A BOLTON school hopes to go top of the class for romance and offer former pupils a reunion with a difference. Bolton School has asked the council for permission to hold weddings in the Great Halls The magnificent halls are normally used for assemblies and special occasions such as prize giving.

But the school believes many former pupils would like to take a step back in time on their wedding day.

The Arts and Conference Centre is already a popular venue for receptions, particularly with those who have happy memories of their schooldays.

Manager Duncan Kyle explained: "We have been holding wedding receptions for about five years and have applied for a licence because we would like to be able to offer people a complete package."

"The grand halls are beautiful and we feel they would be an ideal location for a civil ceremony before a wedding breakfast at the arts centre."

Councillors will have the final say on the application but if it is successful, the school hopes to hold weddings from Summer 1999.
