LEIGH clinched a magnificent five-wicket victory over local rivals Wigan in the final group match of the Penketh Trophy Cup Competition to finish top of their group and unbeaten.
Wigan, who also qualify for the quarter finals, set a target of 248 which proved to be well within Leigh's reach, top scorer Kersnovske posting his first half century for Leigh on his way to 77.
In a busy weekend, Leigh went through to the second round of the Lancashire Knockout with a four-wicket victory over Glossop.
Leigh were grateful for a tremendous match-winning innings from Andy Mullaney who hit an unbeaten 65 - his first 50 in just 66 balls - as Leigh passed Glossop's total of 158.
It was success all the way for Leigh, who had been knocked out of the Abbot Ale Cup the previous week by Widnes, as they claimed their first league victory of the season at the third attempt with a crushing seven-wicket victory over St Helens Reds.
St Helens amassed a decent total of 197 which Leigh beat for the loss of just three wickets, Steve Bailey starring with 85.
