DEPARTING Leigh coach Keith Latham will be staying on at Hilton Park to oversee the Centurions flourishing youth policy.

Latham, who reluctantly stood down as head coach yesterday because of increased business and domestic commitments, will accept Leigh's offer to continue the youth system he has put in place.

Latham is still coming to terms with the decision he felt he had to make in the Centurions' best interests, but last night admitted he was looking forward to continuing his work with Leigh's young talent.

"I'm taking a day or two out to prepare my thoughts and will make a full statement later, but the offer to stay on and work with the kids is a tremendous gesture by the club," he said last night.

"The reasons behind my decision to quit were nothing to do with results or our league placing. There's been no fall out...it's simply for personal reasons.

"I'm looking forward to finding a bit of time to help develop the club's youth system. I put much of it in place and would like to see it through and flourish."

New boss Norman Turley, who steps up from assistant, is Leigh's 22nd coach in the last 25 years. A former well-travelled player, Turley has coaching experience with Trafford Borough, Workington and Whitehaven.

He, along with chairman Mick Higgins, met with the players last night to map out their plans for the rest of the season.

Club skipper Tim Street will make a personal appearance before the RL Disciplinary Panel in Leeds tomorrow after being sent off for fighting in last Sunday's home defeat by Keighley.

Backed by chairman Higgins, Street will claim he was deliberately intimidated by the Cougars.
