"SHOW Stopper" Jacki Lane hit the high notes when she made her TV debut.
The 14-year-old singer, from Horwich, competed in a regional talent contest for the first time - and won.
The Rivington and Blackrod High School pupil was chosen to take part in cable television's Show Stopper 1998 programme at Oldham Shopping Centre.
And hours of rehearsing in her bedroom paid off when she took first prize of a trophy, a bottle of champagne and £300.
The Show Stopper programme was one of three held for talented performers in the region and Jacki performed "Light Of My Life", a track from pop singer Louise.
Jacki has just finished going to weekly drama classes, where she took singing lessons, and has been involved in local pantomimes.
Mum Julie said: "We were all thrilled. She auditioned about six weeks ago and only found out she had been successful a week and two days before she was due to appear.
"We had a panic to find a background tape for her.
"Singing and acting is what she wants to do. She loves it. She is hoping to join an agency which finds work for extras in TV programmes. Her ambition is to be famous - and this is her first step.
"This is the first competition she entered and she won it - you cannot do any better than that."
