A MAJOR review to find out if people are getting the best out of Bury's parks gets underway next week. Part of a local Best Value initiative, a national Government policy for modernising local government, the scheme will involve widespread consultation with people who use the parks, the community and other interested parties. Manchester Road Park in Bury will act as a testing ground for the pilot scheme, which starts during Local Democracy Week.

Bury's competitive services committee chairman, Cllr Tony Isherwood said: "Best Value is the way forward and gives everyone an opportunity to have their say and be involved.

"Our parks are well used and well thought of. We want to make sure that any changes which do take place are those that are wanted by local people and those who use them regularly."

The council is also planning to carry out a similar review of Bury Cemetery, again using the Best Value criteria.

To have your say, confidential questionnaire forms are available from customer services at Craig House in Bank Street in Bury, the Tourist Information Centre, public libraries, or by telephoning 0161 253 5353.

Members of the public can also call in and discuss their views at Bury Cemetery office, or at the Old Pavilion in Manchester Road Park.
