SIR: I reply to the letter: Credit where it's due, written by A Devlin, Glynne Street, Farnworth, responding to my complaint headed: "What a load of rubbish" (BEN, May 18 ) in which Mr Devlin suggests that the complaint would have been dealt with if I had reported it to the right source.
I was not complaining about rubbish in St James Street (even though there is a load). My complaint mainly was (as in the May 18 article) about dirty back streets near a busy shopping centre off Brackley Street). I have phoned Wellington Yard (Environmental Department) on three occasions with no success. Perhaps, Mr Devlin, if you always get results when you complain, you will be able to achieve some success on this matter. The area I refer to is at the back of the shops up the side street in the centre of Brackley Street.
I have lived most of my life in Farnworth and I would like to see that it is kept as clean as possible and it is time the authorities did something about it. Everything seems to be being spent on Bolton town centre. Let us have some money spent on Farnworth. As far as I am concerned it is a disgrace. Nobody seems to care any more about the state of our town. Perhaps it is the fault of the local authorities for not providing rubbish bins in the right places. But that is no excuse. Save your rubbish till you see one.
It's time the town councillors started to walk round the town a little more often and viewed the situation and got something done. As the letter by Mr D. Lewis headed: Fresh faces needed (Points of view, May 22) stated we certainly need some fresh faces who will look towards having a decent town to live in.
