SCOTT Sellars could miss the start of Wanderers' Nationwide League campaign.

The midfield ace, who missed the last 13 games of the Premiership season with a sciatica problem, is recuperating after having surgery on a disc in his back.

"We can't say at this stage whether Scott will be fit for pre-season," Colin Todd admitted today.

"He's had a major operation and, although he's out of hospital now and receiving therapy, it's hard to say how long it will be before he's in action again."

Doubts over Sellars' fitness, the release of John Sheridan, the sale of Jamie Pollock and the aniticipated departure of Alan Thompson have highlighted the need for Todd to focus on midfield players as he searches for new signings.

He has earmarked three players from his recent scouting missions, which have centred on Scandinavia, where he had success two years ago with the capture of Per Frandsen and Michael Johansen from Denmark for a combined fee of £1.3 million.

Todd refuses to identify his targets but confirmed his priorities when he said: "It's there for everyone to see. The midfield has been depleted and at this stage we only have Michael and Per - I'm discounting Alan Thompson for obvious reasons - so that's what I'm concentrating on at the moment.

"I'd like to think we could have some success in the next couple of weeks or so because ideally I want new players in before pre-season (July 2)."
