CHILDREN'S lives are at risk from dangerously leaning walls in a Horwich back street, it has been claimed. Pensioner Frank Abbott, of Dale Street West, says vibrations from bin lorries have weakened the walls at the back of his neighbours' houses. He said: "They are so loose you can push them and rock them.
"I've seen little kiddies climbing up them and sitting on top.
"Somebody is going to get killed one of these days."
He claims the weight from the 20-ton refuse collection waggons is gradually causing the narrow road to subside, causing the walls to lean into the street.
Pressure has created troughs where drains run under the tarmac.
One wall has already toppled over during a high wind.
Mr Abbott said residents were reluctant to repoint or rebuild walls because the problem would only come back.
Horwich Tory party chairman Ivan Cooper has taken up the issue.
He has written to Bolton Council's environment department demanding it caries out a full inspection.
Mr Cooper said: "One child has been killed by a collapsed wall in Bolton recently.
"I can easily see it happening in Dale Street.
"The state of the walls is just frightening to see."
A Bolton Council spokesman said: "We are investigating the complaint and will take the appropriate action."
