SIR: Cyclists across England will have the chance to test their stamina while raising much needed funds for charity thanks to a 250-mile cycle expedition through the Jordanian desert. The trip is being organised by United Response, a charity that helps people with learning disabilities and mental health problems.
The Lawrence of Arabia Cycle Challenge, which takes place during the first week of December, is a five-day cycle trip across Jordan from Amman to the Red Sea. It passes through the spectacular rock city of Petra and through many other routes that were once used by King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. At the end of the trip all triumphant cyclists have a day to relax in the warm waters of the Red Sea and an opportunity to snorkel, dive or take a boat trip. All those who take part are asked to raise £2,200 for United Response.
The Lawrence of Arabia Cycle Challenge is part of a series of fund-raising events designed to celebrate the charity's 25th anniversary. For a free information pack please contact Jessica Livingstone at the telephone or e-mail numbers below.
United Response provides a range of services around England. All are designed to meet people's individual needs. They include employment and training initiatives and supporting people in ordinary housing in the community.
