BURY could be heading for a bust-up with Lancashire rivals Burnley over compensation for the loss of manager Stan Ternent and his assistant Sam Ellis.
The pair quit Gigg Lane at the weekend and were being installed at Turf Moor today while the respective clubs argued over a cash settlement ... or the lack of it.
One Burnley source suggested the Second Division club believe there is no need for compensation because Ternent and Ellis did not have written contracts. Bury chiefs insist they had a verbal agreement. Neil Warnock, sacked by Oldham Athletic last month, has emerged as one of the favourites to replace Ternent.
The former Scarborough, Notts County and Plymouth manager joins Macclesfield's Sammy McIlroy and Brian McClair (freed by Manchester United) in the running for the Gigg Lane job.
Ternent, who steered the Shakers to successive promotions and helped them coonsolidate a place in Division One, said: "I have enjoyed my time at Bury but Burnley was the club I first joined as a schoolboy and may be my last club."
