SIR: The fountains on Bolton's Town Hall Square were given to the town by Westhoughton benefactor William Wigglesworth. He also donated what was the conservatory on Queens Park, later to become Butterfly World, at a cost of £1m. The original fountains are to go, and the conservatory demolished and a restaurant built.
What a waste of a benefactor's money. I'm sure he would have been better giving toilets to the town - but even those are not safe.
Bridge Street toilets closed, Nelson Square toilets closed. Never mind, there's always the new fountains on each side of the Town Hall if one gets desperate.
