Runs until Saturday. THERE'S something about a living room setting from the Sixties era which seems to offer a warm welcome and that's exactly the greeting offered at Tyldesley Little Theatre last night for their first night of Bill Naughton's northern comedy all in Good Time.
Directed by Karen Norris the pace never falters and she certainly brought out the best from all performers.
For those of you who haven't seen the film The Family Way, the story centres around young Fitton son Arthur (Paul Ward) who marries his childhood sweetheart Violet Piper (Jill Tryner). However their wedding day joy soon turns into wedding night woe as new husband can't 'perform' when they are living under the same roof as his domineering dad. Margaret Speakes and Tony Thompson, as Mr and Mrs Fitton, turn in truly wonderful performances; he as the husband who thinks he knows everything but really sees nothing, and she as the matriarchal family central figure, who misses nothing and to whom everyone turns.
They bounce their lines off each other perfectly and the living room scene in which they try to put the world to rights with their new daughter-in-law's parents (two more fine performances from Mike Rimmer and Hazel Rimmer) is a memorable masterpiece of comic timing.
This is one production from TLT which shouldn't be missed. Linda Hurst
