SIR: Where do you get your information from and who writes it?
I refer to an article on page 28 of the Bolton Evening News of Thursday, May 21, 1998, regarding a bridge in Prestolee.
The bridge in question is one of approximately 10ft wide, single track and which leads to a dirt track up towards Outwood.
You have carried information of this bridge in the classified pages, which stated that repairs would be complete by August 1998.
Prestolee Road, Prestolee (not Stoneclough) is an unmade track which is used by horse riders, walkers and the occasional car which go to stables on Prestolee Road.
Prestolee has a brand new two lane road bridge which crosses the river Irwell onto Market Street, Stoneclough (Stoneclough being the other side of the river from Prestolee).
You carried articles on this bridge when it was constructed.
Does local councillor Mrs Spencer have any idea what she is talking about?
Why press for a bridge of no use?
No one will be marooned.
Alternative ways out of Prestolee are down the canal to Ringley and over Wilsons Bridge to Kearsley.
Please check the facts before writing such articles.
Mr P Seddon,
Grove Street,
Kearsley.
EDITOR'S NOTE.
We reported faithfully what was said during a planning control sub committee. However, it is always pleasing to receive detailed information from someone who has taken a close interest in this bridge development. The application was not identified as a retrospective application as is often the case when work has been carried out swiftly. Perhaps other residents have a view on the necessity of the bridge?
