A BODY, thought to be that of an elderly man who went missing last week in the Irish Sea on a home-made canal boat, has been recovered by coast guards.
Wilfred Critchley, believed to have been born in Bolton, left Knott End, near Fleetwood, eight days ago, telling friends he was heading for the Isle of Man to visit his brother, John, whom he had not seen for 40 years.
However, he was later reported missing to Liverpool Coastguard and has not been seen since.
His vessel, The Will, never arrived at the Isle of Man and a search was carried out for three days by the coastguard without luck.
Last night a member of the public reported seeing a body in the water at Holyhead.
Units were dispatched and the body was recovered.
Although the body has not yet been officially identified, it is thought to fit the description of Mr Critchley.
