A STRAY dog found itself in a sticky situation when it became stuck in mud at the edge of the River Roch in Bury.
Firefighters arrived at the scene yesterday afternoon to find the black and white border collie unable to make it's way up the muddy banking.
The animal was gently lifted to safety by two firefighters and taken to a vet for a check-up.
Praising the officers, RSPCA inspector Brian Oxley said: "We had to call the fire brigade because we could not reach the animal by ourselves. It was a brilliant operation - they are good lads."
