A BOLTON businessman fears he is caught up in gangland warfare after his car was wrecked in a sinister attack.
David Greenwood, 56, and his wife Janette, 48, were horrified to discover a man had poured paintstripper on their Citroen Saxo, causing £900 worth of damage.
The couple, whose car was parked outside offices on Park Hill Street, believe they have become caught up in a "war" and were innocent victims of mistaken identity.
Mrs Greenwood said: "We live peaceful lives, we're not used to that sort of gang warfare.
"There are lots of cars around here so he definitely picked ours out.
"He just got the wrong one." Another businessman had seen a man pouring paintstripper over the Greenwoods' car on Wednesday lunchtime.
He shouted out to him and the man, in his 40s, then walked off but was seen returning before driving away in a VW Golf.
The paintstripper caused damage to the rear bumper, rear lights, number plate and boot lock as well as damaging paint work.
Mrs Greenwood, who lives outside the Bolton area, added: "It has made us very, very worried.
"We don't want to come and find the building vandalised because someone mixed us up with somebody else."
Police are investigating the incident.
