CONGRATULATIONS to Farnworth Little Theatre who have saved their Cross Street home.

The fact that some of the members are prepared to provide long-term, interest-free loans shows the depth of feeling which they have about their theatre.

FLT is not just about putting on plays by and for a favoured few. The theatre is an important part of the Farnworth community.

One of its most successful ventures is its section for young people.

We wish FLT well in this its 50th year and hope there will be many more successful seasons. Right decision THE boorishness of drunken passengers is an occupational hazard for Bolton's army of taxi and private hire drivers.

Most have horror stories to relate and they will be glad to read our court story tonight about a man who refused to pay his £1.70 fare after being transported from one pub to another.

The bench at Bolton Magistrates' Court noted that the driver had lost one and a half hours' work while he was making a complaint to the police and ordered that the defendant should now pay him £15 in compensation -- on top of a £100 fine with £50 costs.

This decision is to be applauded because it might well encourage other drivers to take the same course of action in similar circumstances.
