I reply to Mr J Dunleavy the owner of the Cuts Galore store and his article headed: Thanks for nothing! (BEN, October 22).
I have used a wheelchair in and around Farnworth everyday for the last 14 years and I have quite the opposite opinion to him with regard to the pedestrianisation of Brackley Street, Farnworth.
Surely the fact that the kerbs on the street will now all be one height thanks to the road surface being brought up to the same height as the pathway is a good thing for elderly, disabled and able bodied shoppers alike. Also the car park to the rear of the shops on Brackley Street has also been made more wheelchair friendly thanks to the new ramp leading from the car park to Brackley Street.
It is the retailers themselves who should take a look at the accessibility of their own premises with regard to doorways and aisles etc before offering their opinions on what they guess is best for the disabled people of Farnworth.
Surely the pedestrianisation of this street will encourage more disabled and able bodied shoppers to visit the shops in Farnworth as it is a much safer environment without the large trucks and cars on this small busy street.
"Hats Off" to Bolton Metro and the councillors responsible for the modernisation.
Approving, Farnworth?
